Figs  
  Figs grow on the Ficus tree. Figs a re considered to be in the Mulberry family. There are more than 150 varieties of figs are available. Because of its numerous variety, figs are available throughout the year with an exception of the fact of some seasonal peaks according to the varieties.

Figs are unique from other fruits they have an eye opening called the "ostiole" or "eye". This eye is not connected to the tree and this eye helps the fruit's growth by a constant communication with the environment.

There are several varieties of figs are available and the color, the texture will differ according its variety. some of them are, Black Mission (blackish-purple skin and pink colored flesh), Kadota (green skin and purplish flesh), Calimyrna (greenish-yellow skin and amber flesh), Brown Turkey (purple skin and red flesh), Adriatic (the variety most often used to make fig bars, which has a light green skin and pink-tan flesh).
